Grab Bag vol. 4
Things I found interesting lately, what I’ve been up to, and whatever else comes to mind.
A photographer I admire: Krystle Wright, who shoots landscapes, climbing, wildlife, weather, and really anything in the outdoors. I’ve been following her work for years now and I love the stories she tells with her photos. But she also recently won an award via Red Bull of all things, and the image is stunning. Just wanted to share.
We went to Iceland on a bit of a whim last month and I’ve posted photos here. In retrospect, I should share my photos BEFORE sharing the amazing work of a professional photographer, but oh well.
Related, a note on my experience viewing the aurora borealis: I say that we saw the “La Croix” of the Aurora. I am told that it can be vivid and obvious and BIG but that was not the version I experienced. For me, it was vague dancing shadows in the sky, like clouds with a certain wrongness to them. I wasn’t even sure what I was seeing at first. My best analogy: Brew a hot cup of tea and as it cools, notice that the steam billowing from the top of the mug fades. But as you sip, you catch a glimpse of the tendrils of steam here and there, and if you focus on it, you can see that it is, in fact, still steaming. …Anyway, I was drinking tea the other day and was reminded of my aurora viewing, but perhaps it doesn’t make sense to anyone else. Either way, standing out in the freezing ice and wind, staring at the sky and trying to make sense of it all was an experience I will never forget.
Unfortunately also related to going to Iceland: I came down with covid a few days after returning home. Amazingly this is my first time with it (that I know of, at any rate). It was unpleasant but I’m finally on the mend and back running again. I’ve been trying to keep an eye on my heart rate though, since people often experience higher heart rates for quite awhile after covid, and this can lead to a bigger stress reaction and generally feeling like butt, especially with running. So far, so good! Fingers crossed for continued good health.
While sick, I was fairly bored but not super tired, so I went down some photography rabbit holes. This included editing some underwater photos from a few years ago (results below) and also doing a fairly poor job of photoshopping my friend Aaron on a horse in the middle of a desert (result also below).
And as promised, bad photoshop (including AI generated background, yikes.)
